I've done this a few times now, always with the same result. The end result is a window telling me that it can't validate my copy of Windows. (it says by browser can't run the script) so instead I download a file When I go online to resolve the problem I can't do it through my browser When I click to activate I get the popup window telling me it's not genuine. My System window currently shows the Windows status at the bottom which says I need to activate Windows. He was also told this problem has been happening more recently with the release of Win10. With Staples) who spoke to Microsoft and was told the key is valid. However I have contacted the supplier of the refurbished laptop (Microsoft accredited supplier affiliated I went through a free Windows support live chat, and at the end of a very time-consuming conversation the person told me the Windows key wasn't valid.

When I tried re-entering the product key I got the message 'thisÄoes not appear to be a valid Windows 7 product key'. I have tried various things to fix the problem including re-entering the product key and various fixes suggested on internet forums (legitimate fixes, not dubious ones!) and nothing has worked.

At one point it showedĪn error code as well which I wrote down, it is 0x80070426 (I've tried googling for this code in relation to non-genuine errors and can't find anything). Other things also do not work, like my audio. Since then every time I restart the computer I get the 'not genuine' popup, my desktop background is always black with a message stating 'build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine'.

I hadn't installed anything or re-installed Windows, it just happened out of the blue. Me my version of Windows7 was not genuine and I might be a victim of counterfeiting. Then, out of the blue about 2 months ago, I suddenly got a popup message telling I set it up when I got it, put in the product key, activated windows and everything seemed to be working fine. I bought a refurbished laptop from Staples in July last year.
